Novak Djokovic's 21-match Davis Cup win streak comes to end

MALAGA, Spain --   Novak Djokovic   had three chances to finish off Italy and put Serbia into the Davis Cup final. But  Jannik Sinner  led Italy back from the brink of defeat, saving three consecutive match points before ending Djokovic's streak of 21 straight wins in Davis Cup singles matches to level the semifinal match at 1-1 on Saturday. Sinner then outdid the top-ranked Djokovic again in doubles to seal Italy's 2-1 comeback win and put it in the final for the first time since 1998. Djokovic had hoped to cap a superb season, when he increased his Gram Slam haul to a record 24 titles after winning three more majors, by taking Serbia to its first Davis Cup final in a decade. "For (me) personally it's a huge disappointment, because I take the responsibility, obviously having three match balls, being so close to winning it," Djokovic said. "When you lose for your country, the bitter feeling is even greater." Miomir Kecmanovic  beat  Lorenzo Musetti ...

15 Years Of 26/11, Remembering Gruesome Mumbai Terror Attacks

Image
Commonly referred to as 26/11, these coordinated assaults by a group of 10 terrorists did mayhem on the streets of Mumbai and sent shockwaves through the nation and the world. New Delhi:  It's been 15 years since the devastating terrorist attacks that shook India's financial capital, Mumbai, on November 26, 2008. Commonly referred to as 26/11, these coordinated assaults by a group of 10 terrorists did mayhem on the streets of Mumbai and sent shockwaves through the nation and the world. Terrorists from the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror group had entered the city of Mumbai on the night of November 26, 2008. Over the course of four days, they killed 166 people and injured 300. The targets were carefully chosen after being surveyed for maximum impact, viz., the Taj and Oberoi Hotels, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, the Jewish centre at Nariman House, and the Leopold Cafe, since these places were frequented by Europeans, Indians and Jews. The nine LeT terrorists were killed ...

‘Napoleon’ movie review: Historical postcards from Ridley Scott

Image
Despite stunning performances by Joaquin Phoenix and Vanessa Kirby — and Dariusz Wolski’s stunning frames — Napoleon remains a gorgeous cipher in Ridley Scott’s biopic Every frame of Ridley Scott’s  Napoleon  is reminiscent of the great masters. There is the warmth and jewel tones that grab the eye and keep it, whether it is the six magnificently-mounted battle sequences, or the quieter, intimate scenes, or the riotous scenes of the Reign of Terror. Scott’s long time collaborator Dariusz Wolski’s ( Prometheus, The Counselor, Exodus: Gods and Kings, The Martian, Alien: Covenant, All the Money in the World, The Last Duel , and  House of Gucci ) frames are bonafide works of art. There is a lot to love in this bio-pic, but (there always seems to be one!) there is an underlying frustration at opportunities lost in all the glamour and eye candy. If Scott set out to create a hagiographic portrait of Napoleon, why is there no mention of the French general and ruler’s admin...
